The Division of General Surgery is a key component of the Department of Surgery at McMaster University, located in Hamilton, Ontario. The Paediatric Surgery Training Program at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is a two-year residency accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. A varying number of our categorical residents take advantage of optional research and professional development years, typically after PGY-2. Through the NRMP match, applicants can match into one of two possible general surgery (GS) programs: categorical and preliminary (prelim). July of 2012 was the inauguration of the Residency’s first Community General Surgery Residency position based in St. Catharines.
